MAGIC in Las Vegas

A quick three days in Vegas can lead to a whole lot of storytelling, but in my case, it was all fashion related. I attended this season's MAGIC market show where designers come to sell their lines to boutiques or larger clothing companies. It was set up like a trade show/convention that required non-stop on your feet from 8 am to 7 pm. Yes, I have many blisters to show from my choice of shoes, but this is fashion, you have to handle the consequences of wearing a cute outfit. This opportunity that I was afforded by my university program led me to have inspiring conversations and enabled me to grow my connections within the industry. Don’t get me wrong, I was of course very nervous for this trip and had absolutely no idea what I was walking into, but making sure I created relationships with the girls I was with helped calm me and prepare me for the next three days. On the first full day, I may have had my credit card hacked and was locked out of my hotel room a few times, but hey, I expected worse to be completely honest. We spent the entire day at the market show attending seminars and browsing vendor booths. We were assigned an open-to-buy plan as our project for the "class" which is what we worked on at the convention. As a freshman attending this event with primarily seniors, I had to do plenty of extra research to get ahead. Also, I quickly learned how to do a pretty decent job at pretending I knew what I was doing, but really, who doesn't do that! The event allowed freedom when it came to attire, so it was great to see so many different trends on a variety of people. I kept my style modern, yet professional, so that I would come across more mature and engage in conversations with vendors without them easily knowing I am a student. This was an incredible learning experience and I definitely walked away with excitement and motivation toward my future. Lastly, I got a sneak peak into the forecasted trends and am excited to share those with you, so stay tuned!
